Perkbox EAP overview
Perkbox started life as Huddlebuy, a tool to provide discounts on essential software for small businesses. As Huddlebuy’s founders worked with more small businesses they kept hearing that there was a gap around employee experience and so in 2015 Perkbox was launched to improve employee benefits. Today, employees can access rewards, perks and wellbeing support all on the Perkbox platform.
While the offering has evolved to include wellbeing support, discounts remain the key value proposition from Perkbox. Employers can provide over 9,000 discounts to employees on the platform ranging from food and drink to cinema tickets. Reviews show that this is the part of the platform that employees most use and love.
Below we will dig into the wellbeing support available and other features that Perkbox provide.

Counselling on Perkbox
Perkbox does not provide sessions with counsellors on the platform. Instead employees can access self-serve content to support their mental and physical health. On the Perkbox website the main forms of wellbeing content they shout out are workout videos, guided meditations and sleep stories.
They also have resources aimed at supporting neurodivergent employees, such as ‘Neurodiversity at Work: A Guide to Empowering Every Employee’. This gives some practical tips (e.g. record meetings or share transcripts) but is largely surface level and does not give access to counselling with a mental health professional.

Integrations
Perkbox does not provide any employee-facing integrations but it does integrate with the main UK HRIS systems (Workday, HiBob, BambooHR etc.). This allows admins to outsource the work of adding new employees to the platform and removing them once they have left the business.
Confidentiality
It’s harder to tell how far confidentiality is prioritised at Perkbox. Their website promises the company admin usage data at an aggregate level but also “more granular insight across teams and regions”. How granular this gets is unclear and it’s worth asking about on a product demo.

Best reviews for Perkbox
Great discounts and rewards
Virtually all positive Perkbox reviews from employees mention the discounts and rewards as the key feature that they engage with on the platform. There are particular shoutouts for the range of options available (from Morrisons to Odeon), particularly suited to UK-based employees.
App is easy to use
Unlike other discount apps, the Perkbox app is easy to use and helps users make the most of the offers available. This drives engagement and has led to a high rating of the app on the App store.
Bad reviews for Perkbox
Customer service concerns
The main driver of negative Perkbox reviews for both employees and admins is poor customer service. Perkbox appears to sometimes lack flexibility and a human approach when dealing with disappointed customers.
Refunds do not work
There are a fair number of Perkbox reviews that reference how hard it is to get refunded if something goes wrong. This means employees have been left out of pocket after Perkbox has failed to refund them.
In Summary
Perkbox is a great platform if you want to support your employees financially. It gives them discounts and rewards to fun things like a meal out or the cinema. In the cost of living crisis, this is a valuable offering. Reviews suggest that employees really love this side of the platform and find it easy to access via the Perkbox app.
There are some concerns around a lack of customer service and poor experience if something goes wrong on the platform, with examples of employees banking on savings that are then difficult to access.
Finally, discounts are the start and end of the offering. No reviews reference the employee wellbeing hub and it appears that this is an underutilised part of the product. Therefore, if you are looking to provide your team with mental health support, Perkbox falls short.
