What is an EAP helpline?
An employee assistance programme (EAP) helpline is a service that companies can pay for to give their employees access to short-term counselling and other professional guidance.
An EAP helpline isn't just a service for employees in crisis, but also a proactive resource for anyone needing support, advice or a safe space to be heard. That could include someone who's struggling with work-related challenges (like stress or burnout), a mental health condition (like anxiety, depression or ADHD) or big life events like (like a divorce or bereavement).
Why it matters
For employees, an EAP helpline provides easy access to support from a qualified counsellor to help with anything that's impacting their mental health or wellbeing. Employees can message back and forth with the counsellor, or book in a video call at any time to talk about how they’re feeling and build a tailored plan to help get them back on track as quickly as possible. Depending on the situation, they may also guide employees towards relevant resources, policies, and further treatment if needed.
