What is an employee
assistance programme?
An employee assistance programme (EAP) helpline is a service that companies can pay for to give their employees access to short-term counselling and other professional guidance. An EAP is not just a lifeline for employees in crisis, but also a proactive resource for anyone needing support, advice or a safe space to be heard. EAP services can be used to support anyone within your company who's struggling with work-related challenges (like stress or burnout), mental health conditions (like anxiety, depression or ADHD) or big life events like (like going through a divorce or experiencing a bereavement).
Why it matters
As well as providing immediate, confidential support to the individual, the EAP helpline also brings many benefits for the business:
• Prevents escalation: Early intervention helps stop personal or work-related problems from worsening and reduces the risk of long-term challenges.
• Higher productivity: helps employees manage stress or personal challenges, allowing them to focus and feel happier, more resilient, and engaged with work tasks.
• Reduced absenteeism: giving employees the tools to actively address and improve their mental health before they reach the point of crisis and have to take time off.
• Lower turnover: employees who feel properly supported are likely to stay within the business for longer, have higher job satisfaction, and are less likely to quit as a result of poor mental health.
How does it work?
Spill’s EAP helpline is a fully confidential service that provides immediate in-moment support and guidance for employees dealing with personal or work-related challenges. Your company will be assigned a dedicated senior counsellor, who will be available to your team 24/7 via Slack, Teams or Email. Employees can message back and forth with the counsellor or book in a video call at any time to talk about how they’re feeling and build a tailored plan to help get them back on track as quickly as possible. During this call the counsellor will provide in-moment support, and depending on the situation may guide employees towards relevant resources, policies, and further treatment if needed.
